The AMA (American Medical Association) passed a resolution that they are going to create model legislation that states that the hospital is the safest place to have a baby. It doesn't specifically "outlaw" homebirth, but whenever their is leg like this, it opens the door to criminalizing the other than (think child endangerment to have your baby at home). So that is what all the media is about. Watch for Ricki on Good Morning America on Saturday and post a comment to the Huffington Post. We need lots of comments to keep this story alive, so pass this on to all who care about homebirth!!

Freestyle for Ishaan

This kid's got style-- Freestyle! He was born at St. Luke's, on a futon, mom on hands and knees. Ayumi, the Japanese nurse who is also a midwife, says in Japan they call this kind of birth Freestyle. Jenner is here!

Quick as a flash, Jenner Mason arrived. Congratulations to big brother, Coda, and mom and dad, Heather and Kevin. Jenner arrived on May 27, 2008 at 3:24pm. Although he didn't wait for his midwife, he was surrounded by the love of his family. Welcome Jenner!

Laila of the Night

Here she is, and it was worth the wait. Welcome to Laila Elizabeth to Sharon and Jim. Born in the water on Feb 3, 2008. Here's some of her deets:
-She was born on her due date
-She was born underwater
-She came out after less than 20 minutes of pushing
-Her name, Laila, means "night" in Arabic (appropriate since she was born at 3:30 am), and is a famous character in an epic love story from the Middle East
-Her middle name, Elizabeth, is a tribute to Elizabeth Bennett, the witty heroine of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (I'm a big fan). I also thought it would be nice to give her a more traditional middle name to balance her unusual first name.
